White Lies

 

I recently started the project White Lies, a series of colour-pencil drawn and resined globes in various sizes.
The title refers to a cartographic concept: every map is inevitably a simplification and a subtle distortion of reality.

And therefore, a lie.

Historically, unknown territories were often left blank or filled with imagined flora and fauna. During a visit to the Vatican Museum, I encountered several globes embellished in this way. Today, although we can map the Earth with extraordinary precision, we continue to create our own “white lies,” portraying the planet more harmonious, pristine, and untouched than it truly is. Between representation and reality, I invite you to reflect on how to imagine—and depict the world around us.
